OMORI, Volume 1

Adapted from the independent video game OMORI, this first collection follows Sunny, a reclusive teenager who is about to leave Harubaru, the town where he grew up. Three days before the move, his childhood friend Kel urges him to step outside for the first time in four years. Sunny meets up with his former friends again, but realizes how much their bonds have weakened and how drastically everyone has changed. Between social awkwardness, hazy memories, and wounds that have never healed, everyday life quickly takes on an oppressive tone. At the same time, the story gradually reveals a strange dream world where Sunny's imagination gives shape to his fears and desires. The staging makes strong use of black-and-white contrasts to create an atmosphere that is both bittersweet and unsettling. This first volume lays the groundwork for a coming-of-age story tinged with psychological horror, while remaining accessible to readers who are unfamiliar with the original game.
